Our Adoption Stories: Michelle and Allan
Our journey began many years ago. Allan & I were married in 1986 and we never even considered that we would not be able to have biological children because I already had a son, Raven, from a previous marriage. It just never entered my mind that I would not be able to have more children.
After trying to get pregnant for over a year, we saw the doctor and it became quite apparent that we would not have more children. We talked about adoption at that time but financially, it just was not an option for us.
Ten years later, we received an e-mail from our church stating that there was a young girl pregnant with twin girls that was looking for a Christian home for her babies. We prayed about it and submitted an application letter. Ultimately, she chose another family and I know that is the family God had for those sweet baby girls.
We decided that we would look at other avenues for adoption. My sister mentioned that her Sister-in-law was adopting from China so I called Rhonda. She gave me the name of her adoption agency and we did not do anything for a couple of months. Then I got a call from GWCA's local representative and that convinced us that the time was now.
We began the paperchase for our daughter, Mikayla, and brought her home in November 2002. After coming home with Mikayla, we knew within just a few weeks that we wanted another sweet, precious little girl from China. We had our SW update our homestudy at the same time that she did our 1-year post-placement study for Mikayla and now we are not so patiently waiting for Madison.
